Your Foundation Grants Team sends thanks with deepest appreciation to each one of you for making last year an outstanding success for District 6900.With your 2018-2019 District and Competitive grant funds, our Rotary Clubs launched and completed 65 projects supporting D6900 local communities by contributing more than $212,000 for “GOOD” and countless hours of “hands-on” service to our neighbors in Georgia. Among your good works:

• Providing musical activities and purchasing instruments for people with cognitive disabilities
• Packing 68,000 meals for hungry children
• Providing warm shelter and new cots for the homeless
• Furnishing a safe house facility for girls recovering from human trafficking
• Feeding local school children on weekends when there is no food in their homes.

Due to your Global Grant generosity, D6900 began 11 new projects, touched communities in 10 countries of the Rotary World, educated 2 Global Grant Scholars and contributed more than $1.4 million dollars of “GOOD WORKS”. Included in your “worldly” good deeds are:

• Partnering to support a new respite care center and Alzheimer’s Care Training for families in Italy
• Purchasing equipment and supporting pediatric cardiac testing in Columbia
• Equipping a hospital Nephrology Unit and Dialysis Center in India
• Establishing Rotary’s first partnership with CARE USA to provide business education and training for women and children currently living in Jordan’s Refugee Centers.

In this New Year…

Now Rotary Year 2019-2020 begins with District Grant awards plus four $10,000 and two $5,000 Competitive Grant awards.Checks for all your projects were mailed to every Club last week, so you should receive your money this week if it hasn’t already arrived.

In support of our increased grant activities, especially the global ones, we are excited to introduce you to Dabney Daniel of the Dunwoody Rotary Club, Jim Floyd, Rotary Club of Buckhead, and Mike Irvin, Muscogee Rotary Club, who will be joining the Grants Team.They will soon be available to answer questions regarding international service activities, to connect Clubs inside the District for purposes of grant partnerships or funding and to assist with the Global Grant application and reporting process.Please contact them through me or DFC Cheryl Greenway if you need something immediately.

This year, DG Jim is particularly interested in supporting our International theme “Rotary Connects the World” through global grant projects – specifically ones where D6900 Clubs initiate and host projects that benefit “home town” communities in the areas of education and economic development.His particular passion is basic adult literacy.If you have great ideas, or identify needs in your area that may represent a Global Grant opportunity, please share them with us.

If your Club is considering applying for a Global Grant this year, please remember that you must first qualify your Club by forming an International Service Committee of at least three members, and having one or more members review the short, educational videos on our D6900 website, and pass the basic knowledge quiz at the end. Alternatively, you attendance at the Global Grants Seminar during District Assembly last spring will also qualify. Your Club should contact me (adillardglenn@gmail.com) immediately to determine the availability of DDF matching funds for your proposed projects before you begin the application process.

Another important reminder – it is now a Rotary Foundation requirement that all global grants must align with one of Rotary International’s “Six Areas of Focus” and be “host community driven”. That means the grant is designed based upon local needs that have been identified inside the community. A community needs assessment must be conducted with the results included in your grant proposal before it can be submitted for funding.
