Service Above Self
Join Us at Bounds Garden This Saturday!

One of our club’s most visible contributions to the Dunwoody community is the beautiful traffic island across from the Dunwoody Library. This cherished spot is affectionately known as "Bounds Garden," named in honor of our dedicated member, Fred Bounds. For many years, Fred has tirelessly led the maintenance of this green space, ensuring it remains a point of pride for our neighborhood.

While Mother Nature had other plans for our scheduled workday last Saturday, Fred made the wise call to reschedule due to the rain forecast. We are now set to gather this Saturday, January 17, to give the garden its first refresh of the new year.

As always, we keep things efficient and fun. We will start promptly at 9:00 AM and aim to be finished by 10:00 AM. It is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, engage in light physical work, and share in the wonderful camaraderie that defines our club. As the saying goes, "many hands make light work"—the more volunteers we have, the quicker we can restore the garden to its full glory.

Let’s start 2026 on a high note by giving back to the community we love. We encourage you to bring along a friend or a prospective member to show them the Rotary spirit in action. Think of adding yourself to this photo of Fred at the garden following our successful cleanup this past October. We look forward to seeing everyone there this Saturday!

Service Opportunity
Three Best Reasons to Host GRSP Students

As GRSP celebrates 80 years of promoting Peace Through Understanding - and Dunwoody celebrates its 25-year involvement in the GRSP Leadership Weekend, we are looking to involve everyone in the weekend's adventures - from packing 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger and Pizza/Game Night on Friday night ... to GRSP Olympics and communication skills development on Saturday ... to a "Shark Tank" competition for service project dollars on Sunday morning. There are roles to help with all of this - in partnership with the Rotary Club of Buckhead.

We are still in need of 5 or 6 host families for the weekend - providing beds, breakfast and transportation to and from the event venue on North Shallowford Road in Dunwoody! Why host?

  1. Your Club needs your participation.
  2. It's fun ... you get to meet bright, energetic college students from around the world and learn about their country, their families and their dreams!
  3. You get to enjoy time with your Dunwoody Family of Rotary and make more friends with Rotarians from Buckhead and Metro Atlanta ... not to mention Atlanta Rotaractors!

Contact Jackie Cuthbert about help out with the leadership weekend ... at 770-597-1183 or by email at cuthbert@mindspring.com.

Getting to Know You
Celebrating Ron Barden

In our latest Member Spotlight, we are proud to feature Ron Barden, a man whose life reflects the Rotary motto of Service Above Self through both his professional expertise and his dedicated volunteerism.

Ron’s journey with our club began in 2017. Having been a member of another club previously, Ron followed Louise to our group and was officially sponsored by Bill Mulkey. Since joining, Ron has carved out a vital niche for himself, most notably through his work first with the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP), supporting international student exchange and goodwill. Ron has also served as a director at large and as the First Dude under his wife Louise's term as president. And he's a regular volunteer at Anchor Place.

Ron’s professional background is as distinguished as his Rotary service. After serving 24 years in the Navy and retiring with the rank of Captain, he transitioned into a stellar career in academia. He was an Associate Professor of Accounting at Georgia State University until 2004, spent a year as a visiting professor at Mercer University, and since 2012, has served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Accounting at Clayton State University.

Beyond the classroom and the club, Ron and Louise are seasoned travelers, having attended several District Conferences and two International Conventions. When he isn't balancing the books or attending meetings, you can likely find Ron indulging in his favorite hobbies: fishing, relaxing at their beach house, or sharing his gift of singing.

Please join us in thanking Ron for his leadership and for being such an integral part of our Rotary family!

Dunwoody Diners
Join Us for a Valentine's Day Vietnamese Food Adventure!

The next Dunwoody Diners adventure features Vietnamese Food, as we gather on February 14 at Nam Phuong at 6:30 pm. We had a fabulous gathering there last year - with GRSP student Hoa Nguyen there to guide our food choices - and rumor has it that she will join us again this year.

The address is 4051 Buford Highway NE 30345. The phone number is 404-633-2400. Please RSVP by February 7 to Sherry Levy at sherrylevy13@hotmail.com. Please note that parking is at a premium, so please try to carpool with a fellow Rotarian. If you have any questions regarding transportation, please let Sherry know. Thank you very much.

In Memoriam
Remembering Sarah Cliatt Noblitt

We are sad to note the passing of Sarah Cliatt Noblitt on January 9, 2026, in Dunwoody, Georgia, leaving behind a family who adored her and a legacy of quiet, steadfast love.

Family and friends are invited to gather on January 14 at 5:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, 4550 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. The family has requested donations to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
