ROTARY CLUB OFFridays, 7:15 am |
President | Louise Barden |
President Nominee | David Burr |
Immediate PP | Jack Sparks, Jr. |
Vice President | Matthew Johnson |
Treasurer | Carter Stout |
Secretary | Alison Norris |
There's no meeting at the Embassy Suites this Friday. However, there are two great opportunities to meet up with your Dunwoody friends:
We encourage you to attend both events. The club will pay for your breakfast, so let Rick Woods know (if you haven't already) at sdoowrm@gmail.com with the subject line “Dekalb Breakfast” to indicate your attendance. Check with Rick if you'd like to know about any carpooling arrangements.
Each Friday, we’ll give a raffle ticket to the first person who can answer a question drawn from either the slide show that runs at the meeting’s start OR the weekly bulletin! You’re a winner even if you don’t get the ticket – because you’re better informed about all that the Rotary Club of Dunwoody has to offer … and all that we do to make a difference! Start studying now! First question will be coming your way next Friday, March 28.
Ready to play in the dirt with your friends from the Rotary Club of Dunwoody? Then this is your lucky Saturday (right on the heels of the St. Patrick's Day luck of the Irish). Join Ranger Fred Bounds as he continues this week's celebration of the green at Bounds Gardens, the traffic island across from the Dunwoody Library! We'll be there - with gloves and our favorite garden tools - at 9 am. this Saturday, March 22. Hope you can join us!
Tournament
planning is going well with new sponsors added each week. Consider the $25
Participating Sponsorship if you can’t sponsor, play or volunteer!
We really need your help in gaining a sponsorship for the $5,000 Gold sponsor, another $3,000 Silver sponsor and an event sponsor for $2,500 Putting Contest. All come with special signage at the event and on the website.
We continue to look for a potential $20,000 Signature sponsor. Rick Woods has contacted EVERY car dealership in our area with no luck so no surprise that this is not an easy task. The sub-committee formed to address large corporate sponsorship solicitation will now be addressed by the Business Connections Committee recently formed as part of the membership survey results compiled by Peter Sherman. Please contact Hoshi Daruwalla if you want to serve on this committee.
We have openings in $1,000 Hole sponsorships (we have 16 so far) as well as opportunities to become a $250 Contributing sponsor (we have 4 so far), a $100 Donating sponsor (we have 1 so far) or even a $25 Participating sponsor (we have NONE so far)!
Merchandise choices are being finalized by their sponsors this week and orders will be placed soon. We will have beige hats this year.
Neal MacDonald made an appeal to the membership last week asking for help is acquiring auction items such a restaurant gift cards (we have $100 from Marlow’s Tavern) and other retail type gift cards, baskets of your own design such as wine or cosmetics and destination packages to lake homes, hotel weekends or beach vacations. We’ll have some jewelry items (we have a $1,000 Gift Crad from Lauderhills Fine Jewelry and a Women’s Sport Watch from Worthmore Jewelers) and possibly some sports and movie memorabilia on consignment. If you have items at home to donate, please make sure they are new and unused. Please contact Neal MacDonald if you want to serve on this committee.
The most current information can be found on the tournament website at www.rcdgolftournament.com. Please direct contacts to the most excellent website that is up-to-date and looks great thanks to Hoshi who is making almost daily updates.
Marion and Austin Bunch have invited all who are interested to home this Sunday, March 23 from 4 to 6 PM for a BYOB winefest. Participants also are asked to bring an appetizer to share. Their condominium is one of two towers at the corner of Peachtree and Lakeview - specifically at PLAZA TOWERS, 2575 Peachtree Rd. NE, unit … [more]
We invite all members, especially those who are new or have not yet volunteered for a Day of USO service, to consider joining us for this special opportunity to give back to our military personnel. I assure you that at the end of the day, you will feel fulfilled and appreciated by those you serve, who will respond with, "Yes Sir" or "Yes Ma'am" in heartfelt gratitude.
Event Details:
Date: Thursday, April 10, 2025
Location: USO, Hartsfield Airport
Shift: 9 AM to 3 PM
We plan to serve an "All American" lunch featuring hot dogs with all the fixings, chips, fresh fruit, snack bars, and homemade cookies. To add an extra treat, E. 48th Street Market will kindly donate 75 servings of baked ziti and meatballs. You can help as a volunteer at the USO, or by baking cookies we'll take with us to share with our military friends. Read on! [more]
Last Friday, we were delighted to host Denise Brodsky as our
guest speaker when she reviewed how Clubhouse Atlanta supports the local
community. This week, we highlight her as a Rotarian and club member.
Denise was initially attracted to Rotary for the powerful collaboration and community connection it fosters. She emphasized the value of building relationships with like-minded individuals. Her favorite Rotary memory with our club is participating in last year's Fourth of July parade, where she forged deeper bonds with fellow members. Denise expressed a desire to see our club engage more actively in advocacy. She believes many members harbor strong passions for specific causes and would benefit from advocating for public policy changes.
This past weekend Denise had family visit from Arizona and the photo shows her on top of Stone Mountain with two grandsons. Looking ahead, she is planning a ladies' vacation this June to visit Arizona, joining her sister, sister-in-law, and niece for a well-deserved getaway. We thank Denise for her insightful presentation and her commitment to our club.
We're planning an art project at Anchor Place that will require LOTS of plastic bottle caps - save all sizes and colors (ask your friends to help) and bring them with you to Rotary! We hope to do the project in early summer.
