Getting to Know You
Tina Philpot, Deep Ties to Dunwoody
Tina Philpot's dedication
to our Rotary Club and the wider community shines brightly. Since joining in
2002, sponsored by Fred Bounds, Tina has embodied the spirit of "Service
Above Self." Her favorite Rotary activity? Simply attending our weekly
meetings, a testament to her genuine enjoyment of fellowship and connection.
Tina's professional journey is equally impressive. Starting part-time at
Georgia Perimeter College in 1979, she ascended to Department Chair and Dean of
the College of Business, culminating in five years of crucial work during the
college's merger with Georgia State University. Retiring in 2020, her legacy in
education remains profound.
A past club president (2016-2017), Tina's leadership has been invaluable. She's
also a committed member of the Chamber of Commerce, representing both the
university and our Rotary Club, and advocating for strong community ties. Her
vision for our club is to be deeply integrated into the local landscape.
Beyond Rotary and professional life, Tina's roots run deep in Dunwoody where
she has lived for the past 49 years. A member of Dunwoody United Methodist
Church since 1979, she found more than a spiritual home; it's where she met her
husband of 37 years in a singles group. Tina's consistent presence and
commitment make her a true asset to our club.
A Look Ahead to Next Week
DeKalb Rotary Council Breakfast at Georgia Piedmont Technical College - RSVP Now
The DeKalb Rotary Council will hold its annual breakfast for members of the eight clubs in Dekalb County. The date is Friday, March 21, at Georgia Piedmont Technical College (495 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston, GA 30021). The activities will begin at 7am. Breakfast will be served in a buffet style. The speaker for the event is Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, the newly elected CEO of Dekalb County. We encourage you to attend. The club will pay for your breakfast, so we need to have an accurate head count to ensure we have enough food. Service Opportunity
Let's Get Ready for the USO - April 10!
We invite all members, especially those who are new or have not yet volunteered for a Day of USO service, to consider joining us for this special opportunity to give back to our military personnel. I assure you that at the end of the day, you will feel fulfilled and appreciated by those you serve, who will respond with, "Yes Sir" or "Yes Ma'am" in heartfelt gratitude.
Event Details:
Date: Thursday, April 10, 2025
Location: USO, Hartsfield Airport
Shift: 9 AM to 3 PM
We plan to serve an "All American" lunch featuring hot dogs with all the fixings, chips, fresh fruit, snack bars, and homemade cookies. To add an extra treat, E. 48th Street Market will kindly donate 75 servings of baked ziti and meatballs. You can help as a volunteer at the USO, or by baking cookies we'll take with us to share with our military friends. Read on! [more]
