Hope you have all been enjoying your holidays and are ready to get busy as we start the second half of this Rotary Year. Rotary International will help kick off the New Year this morning with its entry in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California - "On the Road with Rotary." You can watch the parade on NBC and Peacock.
President Louise and Ron invite you to dress warmly and join our special Glühwein wine fellowship this Sunday, January 5 from 4 - 6 pm. Where did the Glühwein tradition start? The oldest documented Glühwein tankard is attributed to Count John IV of Katzenelnbogen, a German nobleman who was the first grower of Riesling grapes. This gold-plated lockable silver tankard is dated to c. 1420.
The Alsace Christmas markets are said to only serve Glühwein - no other beverages. At our own Glühwein Fellowship, we'll provide the Glühwein but ask that everyone coming bring a bottle of wine or an appetizer/dessert to share. And we'll have non-alcoholic beverages too. We also invite you to participate in our "Christmas market." Ron and Louise have identified some Christmas decorations that are looking for a new home and you may have some too. Bring them and enjoy the free Christmas market.
We'll enjoy a winter wonderland on our back deck (weather permitting, otherwise we'll move inside) and the hot mulled wine that is the Christmas market tradition all over Europe. Please RSVP to Louise at lbarden@comcast.net or 404-423-8226. The Bardens live at 5576 Colbert Trail, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092.
In the past few weeks, you have heard about the magic of GRSP ...
We'd like to invite you to share the magic February 14-16 by hosting students and/or volunteering to be part of the team that makes the weekend happen. More to follow soon but mark your calendars now! And let Jackie know if you'd like to be a weekend host family. We'll share more in the weeks to come!
Teams of volunteers from all three Rotary Districts in Georgia will be headed to the Augusta area or up to Western North Carolina to assist with disaster recovery the week of January 6 through January 11. We will clearing debris from yards or removing storm damaged contents from houses. There is plenty of work for all skill levels. Feel free to come for a day or stay for the whole week. Fill out this quick form to let us know when and where you can help. We will be in touch with more details about accommodations and travel to each area as we fill out the teams. Thank you for volunteering to help!
