The Friendly Breakfast Club

August 7, 2019

This Week's Speaker
Todd Galanti, Warehouse Manager, Costco Perimeter

Todd Galanti was born and raised in Dunwoody and is a graduate of Chestnut Elementary, Peachtree Middle and Dunwoody High School. He received a Bachelors Degree in Economics with a minor in Business Foundations from the University of Texas at Austin.

Todd began his career with Costco in 2001 as the Assistant Front End Manager in Austin, Texas' first Costco location. He worked in many Costco locations including: Wayne, NJ, Nanuet, Yonkers, and Port Chester, NY, Alpharetta, Perimeter, and Brookhaven, GA, before being promoted to Warehouse Manager in Knoxville, TN in 2012. Last May, Todd transferred back "home" to Atlanta and is currently warehouse manager at the Perimeter location. Todd and his wife of 15 years, Julia, have three children (Stella - 12, Ileana - 9, and Jaron - 6) and 2 Vizslas (Rudy and Dozer). Todd enjoys spending time with his family, riding his Peloton bike, golfing, working in the yard, and going to the beach. Todd is a die hard Atlanta Falcons fan.

Currently a Dunwoody Rotarian, Todd joined Rotary in 2013 in Knoxville, TN in the Rotary Club of Farragut.

Something you may not know about Todd is that when was 17 years old he almost died in a biking accident right here in Dunwoody. Wearing a helmet saved his life. The thing that Todd loves most about his job is simply the fantastic company he works for and watching employees learn, develop, and grow. His two favorite movies of all time are Top Gun and Rudy. His favorite quotes are "What you put into it is what you get out of it" and "Everything rises and falls on leadership."

Rotary Youth Exchange Needs You!!

Daniella has arrived in South Korea for her Rotary Youth Exchange, thanks to all the hours invested by our RCD Rotary Youth Exchange committee and numerous others. Our committee needs some additional members! Please take this opportunity to meet some amazing high school students who want to be a part of the Rotary Youth Exchange program. We especially could use help with recruiting outbound students for the 2020-21 school year – recruiting starts in August! All that is required is (1) a criminal background check; and (2) a short on-line training regarding interactions with Youth Exchange students. That’s it!! Other volunteer opportunities (i.e., meeting make-ups!) also are available. Please contact Deb Cameron with questions or to get involved in this great Rotary program: dsc630@gmail.com or 404.668.1259.

Service Opportunity
Can You Help with Rotary "End Sex Trafficking Now” Project?

In Rotary and in Georgia there are new initiatives to reinvigorate efforts to combat the threat of human trafficking - here in Georgia and around the world. Why? There are over 40 million enslaved people, according to Walk Free’s Global Slavery Index. Louise Barden and I recently participated in a local meeting of Rotarians to discuss ways we could work together to combat human trafficking.

  • Rotary International has established a Rotary Action Group Against Slavery (RAGAS) - led by Coordinator Dave McCleary of the Rotary Club of Roswell. You can learn more about what the Rotary Action Group is doing by visiting https://ragas.online/local-groups/the-americas/
  • Georgia’s First Lady Marty Kemp has initiated a project called "Georgians for Refuge, Action, Compassion, and Education” (GRACE), with a commission to combat human trafficking here in Georgia.

RCD has participated in the community “Awareness” Sex Trafficking program and I would like to restart our “Awareness” efforts to communicate to the community. Please let me know if you have interest in helping me to develop and implement an "End Sex Trafficking Now” “Awareness” program. If you are, please contact me at italian@e48stmarket.com.

Thanks for Your Service
Dunwoody Rotarians Join DeKalb Rotary Council to Support FODAC

Nine members of our club joined a group of over 60 DeKalb Rotary Council volunteersto make the annual FODAC Equipment Drive another successful one! Thanks to all of you and to the Rotary Club of North Atlanta for its leadership! This project is only successful due to the collaborative efforts of all the clubs involved. And we had fun while we were making a difference!

We have not yet received the total dollar amount of equipment that we collected this year from FODAC, but all indications are that this year’s amount will put this project over the $1 Million mark for cumulative equipment collected.

Congratulations and thanks to those of you who joined me at this event: Bob Freeman, Rick Otness, Russell and Jessica Reams, Jeff Rosen, Jennie Stipick, Rick Woods and Lorri Christopher.

Public Image Opportunity
Help Us Share Rotary

You all know that Membership is one of our key priorities for 2019-20. While that certainly includes recruiting new members, it also means keeping our members informed about and engaged in the work of the club.

As your Public Image chair, I am asking for your help. I would like to build a committee to be sure we are keeping you and prospective members (everyone in our community) up to date on the opportunities for FUN, fellowship and service with the Rotary Club of Dunwoody.

Dottie Toney is already part of that committee, writing stories each week for The Dunwoody Crier. She has been doing this for several years and we have had incredible coverage there. PDG Bill Mulkey is a major contributor to sharing our rich club history.

I would like to enlist help with:

  • Getting our story out on social media … Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In and more
  • Updating our web site … I have completed an audit of the site and have some ideas for making it better, but would welcome your thoughts and hands too!
  • Creating the weekly bulletin - I am the Editor this year but could use some back-up ... creating stories, acting as liaison or reporter for our key committes (Membership, Community Service, International Service and The Rotary Foundation, Service to Schools, Fundraising
  • Making sure our events are captured with photos … Carter Stout and Mike Parks have been a big help here but we welcome volunteers to make sure we have the visuals to support our story.

Please contact me at 770-597-1183 or cuthbert@mindspring.com to share ideas or volunteer!
