Weather Alert: Month of May Bringing Service Opportunity Whirlwind

We learned at last Friday's meeting that May will bring a whirlwind of special service opportunities:

  • May 5 ... Volunteer with the DeKalb Rotary Council to share Rotary at the Tucker Days community event ... Rick Woods is our point person for this and we'll have more information next week.
  • May 8-10 ... Join us at the Dunwoody Arts Festival, where we'll check in artists and help them set up their booths on Friday night and in the wee hours of Saturday morning, tell our own Rotary story at the Dunwoody Rotary booth on Saturday and Sunday, and help the artists break down their booths on Sunday late afternoon ... Kathy Brandt and Russell Reims are our point persons for this event and will be able to help sign you up
  • May 18 ... Did you know we were having a golf tournament ,.. with lots of opportunities to be involved? Read the article below and see Alison North about how you can volunteer
  • Late May ... Special Olympics State Summer Games at Emory

Need to warm up for the whirlwind? See the article below about our April 8 day with the USO at Hartsfield Jackson Airport. Charlie Augello could use your help.

Service Opportunity
Join Us at the USO: Next Wednesday. April 8

Wednesday April 8, 2026 will be Rotary Club of Dunwoody USO Volunteer Day. We will serve our service personnel and family members an “All American” lunch of hot dogs with all the condiments, potato chips, fresh fruit, snack bars, cookies, bottled water plus a portion of baked Ziti & Momma’s meatball.

We would like to have eight volunteers for the day from 9 AM to 3 PM. Duties vary from greeter, hot dog grill mate, server, bag monitor among other to do items that need to be done to serve our military service personnel. We are also looking for cookies, water and snack bar donations. Read more. [read more]

Golf Tournament Update
Calling All Volunteers

We've been talking a lot about how you can support the golf tournament as a sponsor or golfer, or by gathering items for the auction but there's another way for you to participate ... as a Volunteer at the tournament on Monday, May 18. The picture provides a quick look at the kinds of roles we need help with. Contact Alison Norris at 678-596-7695 or via email at CallingdunwoodyHome@gmail.com to volunteer!

And we're still collecting auction items (contact Neal MacDonald), collecting golfer names (contact Rick Woods) and always happy for sponsorships (visit the website or contact Bob O'Brien).

Congratulations!
Meghan Berry: This Year's "Show Rotary Cares" Honoree!

Congratulations to Meghan Berry, this year's Dunwoody recipient of the "Show Rotary Cares" award.  Every year, each club in the DeKalb Rotary Council honors one of its members with a "Show Rotary Cares" Award - reflecting on their service in their Rotary Clubs and the community. It's a particularly special award here at Dunwoody because the Show Rotary Cares awards are presented in honor of Charter Dunwoody Rotarian and Past District Governor Bill Mulkey.

Meghan is well deserving of this award. Meghan hit the ground running when she joined the club in 2023 and currently serves as our co-chair for speakers. Meghan has volunteered for everything from the FODAC drive to Special Olympics volleyball. She and her husband Pete have opened their home for club events, hosting a wine tasting and a welcome reception for our international students Hoa and Bin. She especially loves the hands-on, smaller projects that let members connect one-on-one while giving back.

Meghan grew up in Daytona Beach, graduated from Florida State (Go Noles!), and built her early career in nonprofit management working on teen health initiatives. These days, she's a project developer at Innovative Design, helping clients bring their dream home renovations to life. Fun fact — she was actually an Innovative client twice before she joined the team!

Rotary runs in the family for Meghan. Her dad was a Rotarian, and a chance conversation with former client Rick Woods brought her to our club.

Sunshine Revisited
Women's Senses and the "Mystery" of the Mustard Jar

During the March 27 meeting, Dave honored Women's History Month by highlight the exceptional senses of women. We often joke about the "mystery" of the missing mustard jar in the refrigerator, but science suggests there might be more to the story than just a lack of focus. It turns out that, on average, women possess physical senses that are remarkably more acute than those of their male counterparts. From medical breakthroughs to record-breaking feats, here are five ways women’s senses truly stand out.
